History

Experienced in GPS farm mapping, GPS-it Limited was founded by Matt Flowerday after pioneering the use of GPS mapping in the New Zealand kiwifruit industry in 1998.

"I experimented with GPS on a typical New Zealand kiwifruit orchard to produce an accurate orchard map. I then approached the local packhouse (Seeka) to gauge interest in providing a mapping service. As a result of that I got 13 orchards from Seeka to start with then a further 20 orchards from OPAC."

Following on from the positive feedback from initial clients Matt was approached by Zespri to provide recommendations on the mapping of new Zespri Gold™ kiwifruit, and as result undertook the mapping of all Zespri Gold™ plantings in New Zealand, a contract which GPS-iT Limited still holds today.

In conjunction with Zespri, GPS-iT Limited was involved in establishing the industry guideline for GPS mapping of kiwifruit both nationally and internationally, which lead to GPS-iT Limited providing GPS expertise to map Japanese Zespri Gold orchards between 2001 and 2003.

"We have progressively picked up packhouses and growers since then, as the value of having an accurate orchard map has become recognised by the kiwifruit industry"
